Virtual Silicon Embarks On 0.10-Micron SoC IP Product Line

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2001--Virtual Silicon Technology Inc., a leader in semiconductor intellectual property (SIP), today announced the commencement of development of a broad offering of process-specific SoC IP for 0.10-micron, the next generation of CMOS technology.

Virtual Silicon received the first order for 0.10-micron IP in August. The selection of semiconductor intellectual property will include standard cells, basic I/Os, Interface products, memory compilers and instances, and a programmable PLL compiler.

``To carve success out of the current rough business conditions, technology leaders need to market innovative products to create customer demand,'' said Taylor Scanlon, President and CEO of Virtual Silicon. ``In preparation for the next economic wave, we are finding customers aggressively developing new products that embrace new technology and IP from Virtual Silicon.''

Process-specific IP is the fundamental infrastructure between the SoC designer and the fab and is always the first IP developed on a new generation of process technology. Foundries can no longer hand off a set of process rules and a DRC file to designers and be done. SoC design requires a broad range of process specific IP, already proven in silicon, at the very beginning of the development cycle.

With the current generation of 0.13-micron silicon process technology now hitting full production, semiconductor R&D teams are developing the next generation of process technology at 0.10 micron. Next generation SoC designers can take advantages of the processes' faster speeds, higher density and lower power. There are many challenges in developing these new process technologies including new low-K dielectric materials, new lithography technology and new metallurgy. Virtual Silicon is helping R&D teams drive their technology development by developing IP along side the process itself. This concurrent development of process and IP also results in being first to market with a proven, total IP solution. It is Virtual Silicon's unique capabilities in these areas of advanced technology that led to the award of this initial order.

Virtual Silicon is working with several leading edge SoC design organizations to consolidate IP needs and requirements for 0.10-micron. Parties interested in early collaboration on such development are encouraged to contact John Ford at Virtual Silicon.
